One dead in head-on crash on Trans-Canada west of Kamloops

A man died and two other people were injured in a head-on collision on the Trans-Canada near Ashcroft west of Kamloops.

Kamloops Rural RCMP, Emergency Health Services and Fire Rescue were called to the scene of the crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Big Sky Canco on the Skeetchestn Reserve around 9:18 p.m. on Feb. 20, according to a press release from police.

The initial reports indicate that a car was heading west towards Ashcroft when it crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound SUV. The driver of the car, and its only occupant, was a man in his late 50s from 100 Mile House.

He was found trapped in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two people in the SUV were taken to Royal Inland Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A collision analyst was at the scene and the preliminary evidence shows that the cause of the crash was the car veered into oncoming traffic.

The BC Coroners Service is also conducting an investigation.

Anyone who saw the crash, or has dash camera footage from the area around that time, is asked to contact Kamloops Rural RCMP at 250-314-1800.
