Man stabbed trying to break up a fight in Vernon

A bystander witnessed a man yelling at a woman in Vernon Thursday afternoon and the couple stabbed him.

Vernon RCMP were called to an assault in progress in the 3400-block of Centennial Drive around 4:45 p.m. on March 6, according to a press release from police.

The incident began when a man saw a couple arguing and the man was aggressively yelling at the woman.

When the bystander approached the couple to de-escalate the fight, the couple attacked him by stabbing him and hitting him with an object.

Another person saw the assault and helped the victim fend off the couple.

The couple tried to flee the area but officers rushed to the scene. Police managed to find and arrest the couple within minutes.

The victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Antonio Jay Tj Savinainen, 41, and Daniella Elizabeth Hudgins, 38, appeared in court today, March 7 charged with one count each of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

They were remanded in custody and will be back in Vernon court on March 13.
