City to host Penticton job fair in March

Employers in the South Okanagan are continuing to experience a tight labour market and recruiting difficulties, and the City of Penticton is stepping up to assist them.

A number of organizations are partnering with the City of Penticton to bring the Start Here Okanagan Job Fair to Penticton’s Trade and Convention Centre.

The trade show-style event is scheduled for Thursday, March 12 and is expected to bring hundreds of job seekers with a diverse range of skills and South Okanagan employers seeking entry-level and experienced employees together.

The City is partnering with WorkBC, Okanagan College, South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services, Travel Penticton, Penticton Industrial Development Association and Foundry Penticton, as well as the Penticton Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA of Okanagan and the Local Immigration Partnership, with more partners to be announced.

Employers can sign up or update their job listing at starthereokanagan.com as part of the registration process.

Job seekers are also encouraged to register for their free tickets to the www.starthereokanagan.com/jobfair in order to give organizers and employers a better understanding of their audience.

“In today’s tight labour market, local businesses are telling us that recruitment is becoming an increasing challenge. Our forthcoming job fair is a practical solution that will connect employers with individuals seeking employment or new opportunities,” City economic development specialist Andrew Kemp says.

The event is free to all Okanagan job seekers.

The City partnered with WorkBC last November to host a job fair after a major employer reduced its workforce.
