RCMP honoured in Vernon museum exhibits

The Greater Vernon Museum and Archives is encouraging the community to support its RCMP members, learn about Okanagan police history and attend a hockey match in support of a newly declared RCMP Appreciation Day.

The Vernon Vipers will be honouring RCMP members during their game against Prince George at Kal Tire Place. Audience members are encouraged to wear red to show their support, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. RCMP members will be present for the singing of the national anthem, and a table will be set up in the foyer before the game to get RCMP placards from committee members, according to the museum in a news release

On Feb. 1, from 2-3 p.m. the museum will host an open house for people to learn more about the RCMP’s history in the Okanagan. This will also give Vernon residents a chance to come in a see the updated museum displays and exhibits, the release said.

With the support of local political leaders at the municipal, provincial and federal levels, February 1, 2020, has been officially proclaimed Royal Canadian Mounted Police Appreciation Day.
