BC police watchdog investigate police-involved shooting in Penticton

A Penticton RCMP officer shot their gun and a man suffered gunshot wounds so B.C.’s police watchdog has been notified.

Penticton RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 on a suspect after reports that someone might have a firearm, according to a press release from police.

Police stopped a vehicle near Green Mountain Road and Sumac Court. The man ran from the vehicle and an officer shot their gun then the man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.

The Independent Investigations Office of BC is investigating the shooting to see whether the officer’s actions are linked to the man’s injuries.

Since the office is investigating, police are not going to reveal any more information.

The IIO is asking that anyone who saw or who has video footage of the incident to contact the IIO Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in BC. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
