iN VIDEO: Kelowna MP calls for end to softwood lumber dispute in House of Commons

Kelowna-Lake Country MP Tracy Gray stood up in Parliament yesterday and called on the Liberal minority government to take a stand on the long-running softwood lumber dispute with the United States.

The Conservative MP pointed out in the House of Commons in Ottawa yesterday, Jan. 28, the closure of the Tolko mill in Kelowna brings the total of forestry workers who have been laid off in B.C. to 4,000.

The Canadian forestry industry is struggling as it has to pay tariffs up front, she said. The industry has been paying duties for years as various appeals plod along.

“The federal government needs to negotiate a softwood lumber agreement to end this dispute, give certainty to the industry and get people back to work,” Gray said in her speech.
