A vigorous weather system originating in the South Pacific could bring a record setting daytime high to Kamloops tomorrow.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the previous Jan. 31 high for Kamloops at 13.3 Celsius could be eclipsed tomorrow, Jan. 31, with the forecast calling for a high of 15 C.

"It's entirely possible we could have a day or two of record breaking highs," he says.

The warm weather generated by the Pacific frontal system will be short lived, however, as a cold front is expected to bring temperatures down to seasonable levels around midday Saturday.

Lundquist says the system is expected to bring heavy rain to the coast, but Kamloops should only see a few millimetres.

Today, Jan. 30, in Kamloops it should begin clouding over this afternoon with east winds at 30 km/h and a high of 7 C. The windchill will be noticeable at -6 C. It should remain mainly cloudy tonight with a low steady at 6 C.

A mix of sun and cloud should start the day on Friday, with a 60 per cent chance of showers in the morning. East winds at 30 km/h are expected to shift to the southeast late in the afternoon with a high into the double digits expected, at 15 C. Showers are expected to move in Friday night with windy conditions and a low of 8 C.

Saturday should see periods of rain in Kamloops with a high of 7 C. Skies are expected to clear with the arrival of a cold front later on Saturday, clearing skies overnight and dropping temperatures to -7 C.

Sunday should see a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 1 C Cloudy periods are expected overnight with a low to -7 C.

Monday’s forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a high to 1 C and an overnight low of -9 C.

On Tuesday, cloudy skies are expected to prevail with a high reaching the freezing mark. Tuesday's low is expected to dip to -5 C.

More clouds are expected Wednesday with a high of 3 C.

Kamloops normal daily high and low temperatures for this time of year are 1 C and -6 C.
