Penticton driver caught doing 223 km/h in 100 km/h zone

An Okanagan driver in too much of a hurry cost the motorist his vehicle yesterday morning.

Members of the RCMP's South Okanagan Traffic Services stopped a driver after he was clocked doing 223 km/h in a 100 km/h zone at around 10 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 30, according to an RCMP media release. 

The vehicle was pulled over on Highway 97 north of Penticton near Sage Mesa Drive. RCMP do not say what kind of vehicle the person was driving.

The driver was fined for excessive speeding and had his vehicle impounded. Police don't say how much the fine was.

“It’s unfortunate that so soon after we saw a tragic motor vehicle fatality on this stretch of highway, we have drivers who are willing to risk their own, and other motorists lives,” Penticton RCMP media relations officer Const. James Grandy says in the release.
