Girl, 15, suffers crushed pelvis trying to cross street

A teenage girl was hit by a truck Saturday night, and while her injuries were not fatal, she may have fractured her pelvis in the collision.

Around 9:25 p.m. Feb. 2, the intersection of 32nd St. and 25th Ave. became a busy place as first responders and police arrived at the scene of a pedestrian motor vehicle incident involving a 15-year-old girl and the 77-year old male driver of a GMC pick-up truck.

"The police investigation learned the pedestrian had possibly crossed the road going west on a red light, while the driver of the truck was heading southbound on a green light," said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

The driver said he was focused on another vehicle coming out of the yield into his lane, and didn't notice the girl.

"A passenger in the truck noticed the pedestrian dart across the road and tried to alert the driver who quickly hit his brakes, but was too late" Molendyk said.

The girl may have shattered her pelvis in the impact.

Police are investigating to determine the cause of the accident and who was at fault.
