Snowfall in Kamloops could turn to rain later in the week

A cloudy and damp week is expected for Kamloops, with no mention of sun in the forecast until Sunday.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says Kamloops can expect to see two to five centimetres worth of accumulation of snow today, Feb. 4. That snow is expected to taper off to flurries this evening but return again tomorrow in a second round that could see an additional five cm fall.

There is a risk of snow pellets tomorrow afternoon as well.

With a slight warming trend forecast for Thursday, Sekhon says more snow could fall in the morning before rain is predicted in the afternoon.

Motorists should be prepared for adverse driving conditions over the next few days as the temperature hovers in and around the freezing mark. 

Today in Kamloops, two to four centimetres of snow is expected with windchills dipping to -17 Celsius. Today’s high should reach -1 C. Tonight should see cloudy skies with a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a low of -4 C.

Another two to four cm of snow is expected Wednesday before mixing with rain in the afternoon. Winds are expected to be westerly at 20 km/h near noon. Wednesday’s high should reach 1 C with a low of -3 C Tuesday night.

Period of snow are in the forecast for Thursday as well, with a high of 1 C. More snow is forecast overnight with a low of -3 C.

Friday should see periods of rain with a high to 2 C. Snow is expected overnight with a low to 0 C.

Snow is also forecast for Saturday, with a high of 4 C. Cloudy conditions overnight will be accompanied by a low of -6 C.

Sunday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 4 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 2 C and lows of -6 C.
