iN VIDEO: Flooding over Sumas border extensive
Widespread flooding that prompted the closure of the Sumas border crossing has receded and the roads between the US and Canada have reopened.
The Washington State Department of Traffic said SR-9 was closed at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 3, despite the border crossing being reopened. Crews were working to inspect it for flood damage.
Around 11:15 a.m. the State said crews reopened the route, and that all four nearby border crossings were open and accessible.
The damage around the region, however, has been extensive and reversing it will likely be a lengthy process.
Watch this video to see what some familiar landmarks across the border have endured.
Crews are in the process of reopening SR 9 between SR 546 and the border to all traffic. Thank you everyone for your patience this weekend while we waited for water to recede and inspect the highway. All four borders in our area are now open and accessible. pic.twitter.com/1ZZ2u39RDQ
