Sunshine expected to return to Kamloops this weekend

Kamloops residents can expect a couple more days of snow before a drying trend brings some sunshine and rising temperatures to the city on Sunday.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says yesterday’s 14 centimetres snowfall in Kamloops didn’t break records, but was “a pretty big dump of snow.”

“It was more than we’d predicted,” he says.

Lundquist says Kamloops can expect another five cm of snow over the next 24 to 36 hours before it is expected to taper off or change to rain.

"The snow should taper off with a dry trend to follow. Starting Sunday, a much drier pattern will move in, with temperatures picking up through Wednesday next week,” he says.

Lundquist says predictions of another Arctic air outbreak later in the week are diminishing, but colder weather is a possibility.

“Be aware of driving conditions over the next few days, and check with DriveBC before heading out on the mountain passes,” Lundquist says.

Today, Feb. 6, in Kamloops you can expect the periods of snow to end near midnight followed by cloudy conditions and a 40 per cent chance of flurries. Today’s high should reach 1 Celsius with a low of -1 C.

Clouds and snow are in the forecast for Friday with two to four cm expected. Snow could become mixed with rain in the morning with east winds at 30 km/h by the afternoon. Friday’s high is expected to reach 2 C with a low of 1 C. Periods of snow are expected overnight Friday.

Clouds and a 30 per cent chance of flurries are forecast for Saturday with a high of 4 C. Cloudy periods and an overnight low of -4 C is predicted Saturday night.

The sun begins its return on Sunday with a mix of sun and cloud along with a high of 2 C and a low of -4 C expected.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday should see a mix of sun and cloud all three days with highs of 6 C, 4 C and 2 C, respectively.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 2 C and lows of -5 C.
