UPDATE: Summerland RCMP investigating cyclist’s death

RCMP are investigating the death of a cyclist whose body was found on Dale Meadows Road in Summerland yesterday afternoon.

Summerland RCMP along with other agencies were notified of the downed male cyclist around 1:42 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 12.

Witnesses described the man as suffering from serious injuries.

“Sadly the 54-year-old Summerland man succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene,” RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Jason Bayda said in a press release.

Bayda said police investigators are trying to piece together what caused the crash.

He said foul play is not suspected at this time, and police do not have any evidence indicating another person or vehicle was involved.

Police, however, would like to speak with anyone who might have witnessed the incident, as well as to anyone who was driving in the area with a dash cam.

The B.C. Coroners Service is also investigating the sudden death in an effort to determine how, where, when and by what means the man died.

Police are not releasing the man’s identity due to privacy reasons.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact Summerland RCMP at 250-494-7416.

This story was updated at 11:37 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, to add further details of the police investigation into the cyclist's death.
