Mainly sunny week in store for Kamloops

There’s plenty of sunshine in the Kamloops forecast this week before clouds return on the weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says a sunny pattern is in store for the next few days in Kamloops with the odd cloudy period, and temperatures around or just above seasonal norms.

“It’s going to get a bit cooler at night, with the clear skies,” Lundquist says.

A change in the weather is expected by the weekend with an onshore flow bringing some minor low pressure systems to the city.

The cloudy skies today, Feb. 18, should clear late this afternoon. Today’s high of 3 C should be followed by a low of -7 C overnight under clear skies.

Wednesday is expected to be sunny with 15 km/h winds and a high of 2 C, creating windchills of -13 C in the morning. It should be clear and -8 C overnight.

More sunshine is expected Thursday with a high of 4 C and a low of -7 C.

A mix of sun and cloud is forecast for Friday with a high of 5 C expected. A low of -5 C is anticipated along with clear skies overnight.

The weekend looks like it will be cloudy, with a 30 per cent chance of showers starting Saturday night, increasing to a 60 per cent chance of flurries on Sunday.

Saturday’s high should reach 6 C with an overnight low of -2 C, while Sunday’s high should reach 6 C along with an overnight low down to -6 C.

A mix of sun and cloud is expected Monday with a high of 4 C expected.

Kamloops has a normal high and low of 5 C and -4 C at this time of year.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
