Kelowna RCMP hand out 35 tickets for driving while using an electronic device
Kelowna RCMP are reminding the public of the expensive penalties they could face if caught driving while handling their electronic devices or driving with their seatbelts unfastened.
Yesterday, Feb. 18, the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section and Central Okanagan Traffic Services issued 49 tickets at two Kelowna locations for the violations, according to an RCMP media release.
“Our traffic enforcement officers were out in two locations in Kelowna yesterday afternoon looking for infractions,” Sgt. Mark Booth with the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section says in the release.
“We issued 49 violation tickets – 35 for using an electronic device, and 14 for failure to wear a seatbelt. We are continuing this enforcement action throughout this week.”
RCMP say a first time violation for using an electronic device while driving comes with a $368 fine and four demerit points, while failing to wear a seat belt will cost you $167.
