EVERETT — Jesse Heslop scored the winner at 1:34 in overtime to lift the Everett Silvertips over the Portland Winterhawks 3-2 in Game 1 of their second-round series Friday in the Western Hockey League playoffs.

Austin Roest and Tarin Smith also scored for Everett, while 15-year-old Landon DuPont had two assists. Silvertips netminder Raiden LeGall kicked out 30 of 32 shots.

Carter Sotheran and Tyson Jugnauth replied for Portland. Winterhawks netminder Ondrej Štěbeták kicked out 40 of 43 shots.

The Silvertips came back from a 2-1 series deficit against the Seattle Thunderbirds to win their first-round series 4-2, while the Winterhawks edged the Prince George Cougars in a seven-game matchup.

Everett led the WHL with a 42-12-8 record and 104 points in the regular season, finishing 28 points ahead of Portland (36-28-4), the fifth seed in the Western Conference.

The two teams return to Everett’s Angel of the Winds Arena for Game 2 on Saturday.
