Vancouver Canucks centre Elias Pettersson done for season: coach
VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks will likely be without centre Elias Pettersson for their final three games of the regular season.
Head coach Rick Tocchet says the team is “probably going to shut Petey down” as he continues to recover from a upper-body injury.
Tocchet says the 26-year-old Swedish centre is getting better, but not at the pace the Canucks want.
He hasn’t played since getting hurt in Vancouver’s 5-3 road loss to the New York Rangers on March 22.
It’s been a difficult season for Pettersson, who registered 15 goals and 30 assists in the first year of his eight-year, US$92.8-million extension. He had a career-high 39 goals and 63 assists during the 2022-23 campaign.
The Canucks (37-29-13) were eliminated from playoff contention earlier this week, but have three regular-season contests left on the schedule, including a home game against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.
