Kamloops MP endorses Erin O’Toole as Conservative leader

Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Cathy McLeod is backing Ontario MP Erin O’Toole as the future leader of the Conservative party.

O’Toole was elected as MP in the region of Durham, which lies east of Toronto and includes cities like Oshawa and Whitby. In a series of tweets, McLeod says O’Toole understands B.C. issues and said she would like to “(unite) together and take Canada back.”

Yesterday was the deadline to apply for the position as leader for the Conservative Party of Canada. According to the party's website, applicants had to pay a $25,000 entrance fee and obtain 1,000 signatures from party members from at least seven provinces. There are at least seven confirmed contenders, according to this article.

Conservative MPs Dan Albas for the Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola and Mel Arnold of the North Okanagan-Shuswap have not yet publicly announced nor confirmed to iNFOnews.ca which candidate they’re endorsing.

Jenna Wheeler is a writer at heart. She has always been naturally curious about what matters to the people in her community. That’s why it was an obvious decision to study journalism at Durham College, where she enjoyed being an editor for the student newspaper, The Chronicle. She has since travelled across Canada, living in small towns in the Rockies, the Coast Mountains, and tried out the big city experience. She is passionate about sustainability, mental health, and the arts. When she’s not reporting, she’s likely holed up with a good book and her cat Ace.
