Vernon RCMP seize fentanyl and cash after raid on problem property

RCMP raids on a problem property and local hotel room have unearthed quantities of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and cash.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP release an investigation focused on a problem property in the 3400 block of 32 Ave led to the arrest of a 31-year-old Vernon man suspected of drug trafficking March 3.

From this arrest, police then searched the property which had been the focus of numerous complaints of suspected drug trafficking. Police found seven people occupying the property and seized evidence relating to drug trafficking. From this, another warrant was issued and a local hotel room searched. Police seized evidence related to drug trafficking and quantities of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and Canadian currency.

"This is the seventh search warrant targeting street-level drug trafficking houses in the past year and a half. Our Detachment is committed to targeting drug trafficking at all levels to enhance public safety in the community. When houses are set up for the purpose of street-level drug trafficking they will be targeted by officers, including (the) execution of search warrants by our team", RCMP Sgt. David Evans said in the release.

A 31-year-old Vernon man was released from custody to face potential charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking at a future court date.

The residence on 32 Avenue was deemed not fit for habitation and will not be occupied until conditions are resolved says the release.
