Suspect who robbed Kootenay pharmacy with gun demanded methadone

Trail RCMP continue to investigate an armed robbery carried out at a local pharmacy late Sunday morning.

Trail and Greater District RCMP responded to a report of of armed robbery committed at a pharmacy inside the Safeway store at 1599 Second Ave., according to a media release.

A lone woman is alleged to have approached the pharmacy counter, producing a note demanding methadone on Sunday, March 8 around 11:13 a.m.

“The suspect was reportedly seen in possession of a black handgun which was concealed in a re-useable shopping bag. It is very fortunate that no one was injured as a result of this brazen daytime crime,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in the release.

The suspect was captured on the store’s video surveillance system and fled with an undisclosed amount of methadone.

RCMP describe the suspect as a Caucasian female, 5'4" to 5'6" tall. She was wearing a large, dark green and yellow winter coat with the hood up, and dark baggy pants. She was also wearing dark shoes, a black brimmed baseball cap with white lettering, a pair of sunglasses and carrying a re-useable grocery bag with the phrase “Just COZY” written on it.

If you can identify the suspect or you have any information that may assist police you are asked to contact the Trail and Greater District RCMP at 250-364-2566. Or remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
