Wintery weekend in store for Kamloops

Kamloops residents could be in for another taste of winter this weekend before temperatures rebound next week.

It doesn’t look good for outdoor spring activities over the next couple of days, as Environment Canada says to expect plunging temperatures and a good chance of snow.

Still, the Kamloops forecast isn’t as bad as what residents in Southern Alberta could experience tomorrow into Saturday, as that region braces for a winter storm warning issued by Environment Canada that could see more than 15 centimetres of snow in Calgary and as much as 40 cm in other parts of the province over the next two days. Temperatures are expected to dip to -19 Celsius with windchills of -29 C and a risk of frostbite on Saturday in Calgary.

A mix of sun and cloud and high of 7 C is expected in Kamloops today, March 12, and is about as good as it’s going to get for the next few days with a forecast that calls for temperatures to drop to a high of 1 C tomorrow and only 0 C on Saturday.

Friday could feel like winter has returned, with periods of snow and west winds becoming northwest at 40 km/h, gusting to 70 near noon.

Saturday looks to be brighter with a sun and cloud mix, but still chilly and windy.

The sun returns on Sunday along with a slow return to more seasonal temperatures.

Sunday’s high of 3 C is expected to be the start of a week of sunshine, with daily highs rising to 15 C by Wednesday.

Kamloops normally experiences a high and low of 10 C and -1 C this time of year.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
