“Weird Al” Yankovic’s one rule at the South Okanagan Events Centre is Mandatory Fun

PENTICTON – If it Smells Like Nirvana in Penticton, it means Weird Al Yankovic has arrived for his show at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Weird Al announced his Mandatory World Tour on Jan. 20, and takes to the stage in Penticton Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

It turns out Yankovic’s latest album, "Mandatory Fun" was aptly named. After all, he had a big year last year. The album topped the charts, a 50 year first for a comedy album to make Billboard’s number one position, plus it's nominated for a “Best Comedy” Grammy award this year. But Yankovic will have to wait until February 8 to find out how that turns out.

Yankovic has been parodying hits of the superstars for 40 years. He’s well known for such classics as “Eat it”, “Like a Surgeon,” and “Amish Paradise.” His latest album maintains the tradition with such parodies as Lorde’s “Royals”(“Foil”) and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” ("Word Crimes”).

“Weird Al” Yankovic is one of three people to have had top 40 singles in each of the last four decades. Weirdly enough, the other two are Michael Jackson and Madonna.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
