Sunshine and warmer days ahead for the Okanagan

It promises to be a great week to enjoy some early spring outdoor weather in the Okanagan, no matter what you might not be doing, given the latest COVID-19 restrictions.

Environment Canada’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies right through next weekend for the valley, with temperatures climbing into the low teens by Saturday.

It should be a fine spring break week for a nice outdoor stroll, while practising social distancing of course.

Environment Canada says to expect sunny skies with north winds at 20 km/h this afternoon in the valley, with a high of 7 Celsius.

Windchills could be noticeable at -17 C this morning and -12 C overnight.

Tuesday could see some cloud in the morning, with north winds at 20 km/h in the afternoon.

Wednesday through Friday, expect lots of sunshine with temperatures inching towards 10 C by Friday.

There’s a nice weekend on the horizon with sunny skies expected Saturday and Sunday with highs of 12 C.

Overnight lows will begin climbing from -4 C and -6 C Tuesday and Wednesday to -1 C by Saturday night.

Normally Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton experience a high and low of 9 C and -1 C this time of year.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
