UPDATE: Standoff over at notorious house

KELOWNA – One-by-one nine people walked out of a house on Glenmore Road Friday morning with their hands over the heads and in the gun sights of RCMP officers surrounding the home.

It took a police negotiator two hours to coax the suspects and their two dogs out of the house at 1370 Glenmore Rd. across from the Kelowna Golf and Country Club.

Officers along with a police dog are now searching the house.

It’s the same address police were called to on May 26 after a report of a shot fired in the area. Several people were arrested after a standoff with police. A shotgun and a machete were seized. It turned out the shot heard was from a starter’s pistol used to scare the geese from the links at the nearby golf club.

RCMP were called to the house Friday because the evicted tenant wouldn’t leave.

Police weren’t taking any chances given the notoriety of the house and the possibility there might be weapons inside.

Const. Kris Clark says two of the people who were in the house have been arrested, but no word on what charges the pair face.
