Music from three great composers performed at Baroque Splendour

KAMLOOPS – Kamloops Symphony presents Barogue Splendour at Sagebrush Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 7. The programme features music from Bach, Handel and Purcell – three of the major composers from the Baroque period.

The orchestra will be joined by guest conductor Kevin Mallon. Mallon specializes in music of the Baroque period. He was most recently appointed as artistic director of Ottawa’s Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra. Mallon has over 15 recordings with the Toronto Chamber Orchestra, earning a 2009 Juno nomination for a Haydn Symphonies CD. He guest conducts both in Canada and internationally.

Mallon was described by The Halifax Herald as, “…a superbly musical conductor with an intuitive understanding of melody, expression and balance…”

The performance will also showcase three soloists from within the Kamloops Symphony; pianist Naomi Cloutier and violinists Annette Dominik and Cvetozar Vutev.

The term Baroque describes a period in Western European art music from 1600 to 1750. The Baroque period was one of the most diverse periods in music history, considered a turning point of many musical elements.
