Hillside Stadium in Kamloops closes as social distancing practices not met

The City of Kamloops is closing Hillside Stadium as a preventive measure to stop the spread of COVID-19.

"Unfortunately, social distancing best practices are not being adhered to at Hillside Stadium and therefore the Emergency Operations Centre made the decision today to close this facility to the public," Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian said in a media release.

“We will not hesitate to close down other public spaces or facilities if we continue to observe risk taking behaviours."

This closure comes one day after it was announced all City-run playgrounds would be closed. Signage was installed at all City-run parks, skate parks, dog parks and courts.

The City of Kamloops has declared a state of local emergency and is reminding residents of the appropriate social distance practices, such as keeping two meters apart from others, avoiding handshakes and avoiding crowded areas and non-essential gatherings.
