A routine traffic stop resulted in Penticton RCMP seizing a large quantity of illegal cigarettes.
Penticton RCMP, accompanied by members from South Okanagan Traffic Services, were conducting a pro-active traffic stop in a parking lot near Industrial Avenue and Main Street today, March 24, around 3 p.m. when officers discovered 60 illegal cartons of cigarettes in the trunk.
Police estimate the street value of the seizure at $6,000.
An investigation is ongoing with charges being considered, spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in a press release.
“Our officers are conducting numerous pro-active patrols to keep our city safe. Officers never know what items or people they will come in contact with,” Grandy said.
