BREAKING: 186 COVID-19 patients fully recovered in B.C.; no new fatalities

The B.C. government has announced that 186 people have fully recovered from COVID-19.

There are currently 725 COVID-19 cases in the province with 66 new cases of the virus in the last 24 hours. There have been no new COVID-19 fatalities in the last day.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry made the announcement today, March 26.

Almost 600 of the cases in the province are located in the Lower Mainland, with 62 cases within the Interior Health region.

"Every day that we stay home… brings us a day closer to manage this response," Henry said. "We can all make a difference but we need everyone to be 100 per cent committed to doing this."

Henry said there are more cases at the Lynn Valley Care Centre, in North Vancouver. That long-term care home, which was one of the first places in B.C. to report an outbreak, saw four more residents and three staff members contract COVID-19.

Currently, there are 66 people in hospital with COVID-19, with 26 of those in intensive care.

Minister of Health Adrian Dix said there are currently almost 4,000 free hospital beds in the province including 371 intensive care beds.

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
