Crash on dangerous Halston Connector, three in hospital

KAMLOOPS – Three people were rushed to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops Saturday morning after the driver of a Cadillac sedan slammed into a 2-door Honda Civic.

The crash happened on the notorious Halston Connector at Salish Road at 9:23 a.m.

Police say the driver of the Cadillac was eastbound on Halston when the traffic light changed to red. Investigators think the driver didn’t notice the red light due to the sun glare on the wet road.

The woman ran the red light and slammed her car into the side the Honda, hitting the front quarter panel.

The driver of the Cadillac and her passenger, along with the driver of the Honda, suffered back, chest and neck injuries.

No word from the RCMP if charges will be laid.

The crash created a traffic nightmare. The busy road was closed for about an hour.

“Folks are reminded that the speed limit on the Halston Connector is only 70 km/h,” according to Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Doug Aird. “This particular intersection is considered a high accident location in particular with the large volume of traffic using this route in and out of the city now.”

Last Thursday, a speed trap was set up along the dangerous stretch of road. It’s part of an ongoing campaign by members of the Tk’emlups rural detachment to slow down drivers.
