Snow forecast for Kamloops tonight, tomorrow

Better put away the garden hoe and grab the snow shovel because winter isn’t over in Kamloops just yet with periods of snow forecast for Friday.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says a cold pattern presently impacting the city will continue until next week, when a brief warming trend is expected. However, Sekhon says a fluctuating weather pattern is indicated for April with cooler conditions expected to return in time for next weekend.

An Arctic front that brought unseasonably cold air to Kamloops on Tuesday is expected to linger through the weekend, but by Wednesday the city could be basking in a mix of sun and cloud with the high reaching 18 Celsius.

In the meantime, there is a chance of record overnight lows and measurable snow.

The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud today, April 2, in Kamloops with east winds at 20 km/h, a high of 7 C and a windchill of -8 C. There is a 30 per cent chance of flurries tonight, turning to periods of snow which should end near noon on Friday. Up to two centimetres is expected.

Winds should become north at 30 km/h gusting to 50 near noon on Friday with a high of 4 C and a frosty overnight low of -8 C.

Expect a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday followed by a mainly cloudy Sunday with highs only reaching 7 C on both days.

Monday marks the start of rising temperatures with a high of 12 C increasing to 18 C by Wednesday under a mix of sun and cloud.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 15 C and lows of 2 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
