RCMP Major Crime Unit, coroner investigating Lumby boy’s death

An 8-year-old boy died this week and the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the circumstances.

The boy, whose name is not being released, died at Kelowna General Hospital April 5, Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey said in a press release.

He was brought there the day before, April 4, following Vernon North Okanagan Rural RCMP being called to assist BC Emergency Health Services at a Lumby home.

"The child was flown by BC air ambulance to Kelowna that evening and pronounced deceased during the early morning hours of Sunday, April 5," O'Donaghey said.

The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service have no further information for release at this time.
