Vernon’s Kevin Hill takes home gold

VERNON – Vernon is applauding the success of one of its own today with the news of local snowboarder Kevin Hill winning gold at the Winter X games in Aspen, Colorado.

Hill earned the medal Friday, Jan. 23 in the snowboarder X competition. The community couldn’t be happier for him.

Silver Star Mountain Resort issued a congratulatory statement shortly after Hill’s win, and Vernon Mayor Akbal Mund took time to express, on behalf of City Hall, how thrilled everyone is for him.

“A lifelong dream for Kevin has been realized today and we celebrate his accomplishment with him,” Mund said. “Vernon continues to produce local athletes who are attaining the highest standards in the sports world. We would also like to thank the coaches, trainers and parents that help these athletes succeed.”

A welcome home celebration is being planned for Hill Sunday evening at Monashee’s Bar & grill. All are welcome to attend.
