Yesterday's record-breaking temperature high made it warm enough for flip-flops in Penticton but many were still dressed in their January best - warm winter coats and boots. Shannon Quesnel

PENTICTON – It was not warm enough to go swimming in Penticton yesterday but it felt pretty darn close as yesterday's temperature of 15.1 Celsius broke a 68-year record high of 11.7 C set on Jan. 13, 1945.

Yesterday people were wearing a mix of breezy T-shirts and shorts to warm winter jackets and boots. Maybe they didn't know what to expect as the weather seems to be so erratic.

Records were also broken up and down the south Okanagan. Summerland lived up its name and broke its record with 13.9 C. The previous record high was set at 7.8 C on Jan. 13, 1991.

Osoyoos has been described as the warmest place in Canada and yesterday's temperature of 16.1 C didn't buck the trend. The previous record high was 5.5 C set in 1994.
