Kamloops man arrested after breaking into business, stealing van and fleeing police

A Kamloops man is facing a slew of charges after breaking into an auto service shop, stealing a van and fleeing from police.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of April 11 at the Integra Tire on Notre Dame Drive, according to an RCMP media release.

The suspect broke into the business, stole a van that was in one of the bays and then took off by driving through a garage door.

About an hour after the RCMP were notified of the theft, a frontline officer saw a van that matched the description of the one that had been stolen, RCMP say. The officer attempted to pull over the vehicle but the driver got out of the van and fled on foot.

Two officers pursued him and after a brief struggle the suspect was arrested.

Mark Daniel Clute, 49, faces charges of break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime, obstructing a police officer, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, mischief and theft of a motor vehicle.

RCMP say Clute will remain in custody until his next court date.
