Kelowna-Mission candidates talk about schools, students and teachers

Kelowna-Mission candidates came out to Anne McClymont Elementary School last night to talk about education with their local constituents.

In attendance were Liberal MLA Steve Thomson, Conservative candidate Mike McLoughlin, NDP candidate Tish Lakes and Independent candidate Dayleen Van Rysywk. The forum was open to all members of the public and hosted by the Central Okanagan Teachers' Association.

Each candidate introduced themselves briefly before responding to questions from the audience.

Liberal incumbent Steve Thomson took a walk down memory lane last night, reading out his very own first grade report card from the former Anne McClymont Elementary School. His teacher made comments about Thomson being too chatty in the classroom. Julie Whittet

Independent candidate Dayleen Van Ryswyk says not having to adhere to a prescribed platform gives her the freedom to work directly with her constituents’ education concerns. Julie Whittet

Conservative candidate Mike McLoughlin says eliminating the carbon tax will free up more funding for education in the province. Julie Whittet

NDP candidate Tish Lakes has over 20 years experience with social justice issues and helps direct a free legal aid service. Julie Whittet
