Suspected thief extracted from crashed pickup near Lytton

Charges have been laid against a Prince George man following a pickup truck theft and subsequent collision on Highway 1 early yesterday.

A short time before 8 a.m. yesterday, April 27, Lytton RCMP were notified of a stolen pickup truck believed headed towards Lytton on Highway 1.

A grey, Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck had been reported stolen from to Boston Bar RCMP from the area of Blue Lake Road.

Officers spotted the vehicle travelling above the speed limit, eastbound on Highway 1 shortly after 8 a.m., according to an RCMP media release.

Police came upon the vehicle minutes later after it appeared to have left the road and became involved in a collision.

“The lone occupant was extricated from the wreckage by fire officials and transported by health services air ambulance to hospital for medical attention,” RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in the release.

Police found stolen property in the wrecked vehicle.

The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Justin Bjorklund of Prince George. He has since been released from hospital and is facing several charges including possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of identity documents.

Police would like anyone who saw the collision who has not yet spoken with police to call the Lytton RCMP at 250-455-2225.
