Kamloops kids find wands in pandemic scavenger hunt
A local woman is trying to spread a little magic during the COVID-19 outbreak and given the response so far, it appears she's achieved that.
The woman behind Westsyde wands has hidden unique handcrafted wands around the community.
The project was started by a Kamloops woman and her eight year-old daughter, who want to anonymously spread joy during the pandemic.
"My daughter always brings home sticks, and I’ve made her wands in the past," she said. "I just thought hey, 'why don’t I make a few of these.' And it actually kind of exploded into something I didn’t think it would."
She said the reception to the project has been heart warming, and wand-finders have been posting their discoveries in the Westsyde Wands Facebook group.
"An older gentleman found one this morning on his walk with his dog and he brought it home for his wife," she said. "It was just really nice to see that everybody’s getting enjoyment out of it."
A Kamloops business has also offered to donate crystals to decorate the wands, and a local woman has donated money for materials.
The two will continue to make wands and hide them around Westsyde, and they hope to hide a new batch of wands over the weekend.

Each wand comes with a little note and an anti-bacterial wipe.
To find a wand of your own, start looking around Westsyde Centennial Park and Oak Hills along the dyke.
