Endangered badger spotted in Kamloops garden found dead

A necropsy will be performed to figure out why a badger, who was found digging in a Kamloops resident's garden earlier this week, died.

Conservation officers showed up on Tuesday, May 6, to try and trap the endangered animal, and relocate it, but the next day returned to find the badger dead, according to a Conservation Officer Service media release posted to Facebook.

"After consultation with wildlife biologists, the (Conservation Officer Service) set a live trap in the hopes of catching the badger to relocate it," the release reads. "On Wednesday morning, conservation officers returned to the property to find the badger dead. It was not in the trap."

Brocklehurst resident Cherie Bitz posted a video on Facebook this week of a badger that had dug a burrow amongst her plants. The video has since been removed.

The badger spotted in a Kamloops woman's garden was found dead by Conservation Officers, according to a Conservation Officer Service release on Facebook. 

Because badgers are endangered and a protected species in B.C., a necropsy will be done to determine the cause of the animal's death.
