KELOWNA – The Kelowna Chiefs opened up a two-game weekend with a victory.
The team defeated the Chase Heat 2–1 at Rutland Arena on Friday night.
Kaleb Boyle started things off, scoring with 1:32 left in the first period to take the early lead.
It wasn’t until almost 40 minutes of play had gone by when Brady Mende scored a shorthanded goal to tie up the game near the end of the second.
And in the final period of the game, Alex Fortin netted his first goal of the season off a pass from Jagger Bowles.
Tyler O’Donnell earned the victory between the pipes, facing 33 shots.
The game was also the home ice debut of newly acquired Kelowna Chiefs forward Anthony Ruggiero.
Up next for the Kelowna Chiefs is a road game against the Sicamous Eagles on Saturday January 18th.
