Mother bear with five cubs spotted in Penticton
A rare sight in Penticton today as residents spotted a sow with five cubs in tow, according to WildSafeBC.
Residents in Penticton’s Wiltse area are being asked to be bear aware this afternoon, May 19, after the mother bear and her cubs were seen in the Wiltse neighbourhood in the upper Evergreen Drive area.
WildSafeBC says in a Facebook post five cubs is very unusual and the mother bear will likely be working hard to keep herself and her cubs fed.
Residents are being asked to be extra careful with garbage and attractants.
Pets should be leashed when walking in interface zones and residents should be alert to the fact there are bears in the area.
