Snowbirds memorial at Kamloops airport to be dismantled on Friday

Messages of condolence left by residents on a fence at the Kamloops airport will be taken down on Friday.

The City of Kamloops and Rocky Mountain Rangers will be removing and preserving the Snowbirds memorial on May 29, according to a joint media release.

The memorial was started by a Brocklehurst resident the evening of the May 17 Snowbirds plane crash to pay tribute to Capt. Jenn Casey, who was killed and injured pilot Capt. Richard MacDougall, who is currently recovering.

When possible, the Canadian Armed Forces will give the items to the Casey family, Capt. MacDougall and the Snowbirds.

By preserving as much of the memorial as possible, the City and the armed forces will commemorate the tragic crash and the outpouring of support from the community, the release said.
