UPDATE: Salmon Arm RCMP arrest youth alleged to have robbed gas station with a handgun

UPDATE: Salmon Arm RCMP have arrested a youth who allegedly robbed a Salmon Arm gas station with a handgun in the early morning Sunday, May 31.

"Images of the suspect had been disseminated to the media in an effort to identify him. Tip information has led to the suspect being identified and arrested by police," Salmon Arm RCMP Corp. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a media release.

Police say the man arrested is a youth, and he now faces potential criminal charges.

According to a Salmon Arm RCMP media release, a masked man entered the Husky gas station at 50 Trans-Canada Highway SW in Salmon Arm shortly after 6 a.m. May 31. The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. The gas station employee was unharmed in the robbery.

Police believed the suspect may have entered the gas station just before the robbery and released pictures of the suspect to the media.

Anyone with information should call Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044 or remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This story was updated at 4 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2020, to say the suspect has been arrested. The original photography with the article was taken as police have confirmed the suspect is a minor.
