iN VIDEO: Rare colour footage shows B.C. Dragoons driving Sherman tanks in Okanagan

Colour footage of British Columbia Dragoons driving Second World War era tanks around a training site outside of Vernon in 1957 offers a rare glimpse of life in colour over 60 years ago.

The footage also asks a question: Do you recognize any of the faces?

The less than two-minute-long colour footage shot on 16 mm film in what is thought to be 1957, shows the British Columbia Dragoons training in Glenemma, about 20 kilometres northwest of Vernon.

The film features several Second World War era Sherman tanks on an exercise on a bright sunny day. The short film also shows around half a dozen men in uniform gathered around jeeps making notes and looking at maps.

While the film may be over 60 years old, the high quality of the colour footage may mean someone can recognize some of the faces in the film.

The footage was uploaded to the YouTube channel CanadaMotorSports / Reel Life. The channel features a collection of rare historical footage put together by Francois Arseneault, with multiple scenes of life around the Okanagan in yesteryear.

Arseneault has a selection of footage from an army cadets training during a 1956 summer camp in Vernon, to early ski footage from what is now SilverStar Mountain Resort.
