Terrace RCMP investigate Facebook post declaring “open season” on First Nations
TERRACE, B.C. – Terrace RCMP are investigating allegations that a hate crime was committed when someone posted a racist tirade on Facebook declaring "open season" on First Nations people.
The comments appear to have come from a local man's Facebook account and were a response to a recent Terrace Standard news article.
The newspaper's blocking software quickly removed the comment but not before a screenshot was taken and posted on a Facebook page belonging to West Coast Native News.
The screenshot has been shared more than 1,500 times and appears to show a comment that says the "only good Indian is a dead Indian" and "let's have open season on 'em."
RCMP Const. Angela Rabut says Mounties are now looking into it, but she adds it's unfortunate that negative comments attract so much attention and spread so quickly.
She says the Terrace detachment has been getting complaints about it from as far away as Saskatchewan.

I agree with Brent. Yes it would make it all over the world, if it was said about an R.C.M.P. or any other Government person. Do something about it. Don’t wait until some one gets hurt or dead for that matter. Just saying.
This was one ignorant comment made by one incredibly ignorant person….there are few, if any, who would respond by actually being a threat to aboriginal people.Horrible as it is, there is no need to over-react to one idiot and give him this kind of attention….I’m sure he will be caught and charged.(at least I hope!)

Wow! constable should we just keep quiet and not say anything? If someone was to openly say that about the RCMP I bet there would be a whole different approach to ” now looking into it” but after all we are only native people and don’t deserve the same regard as non-natives, especially our women.SO OF COARSE “NEGATIVE”(threatening to commit genocide or calling for it) REMARKS TRAVEL FAST AND GET “ATTENTION” WHEN YOUR LIFE IS BEING THREATEND OR SHOULD WE KEEP QUIET AND STOP WHINING, SO YOU CAN CLAIM IGNORANCE WHEN IT HAPPENDS? LIKE THE MISSING AND MURDERED ABORIGINAL WOMEN? These type of racist comments are a ” Conscience” reality in most white peoples minds in Canada. So the institution ofMitigating First Nations issues is alive and well in Canada, why ever would we need an inquiry into matters when it’s apart of the Canadian culture to hate “Indians”.
