UPDATE: Highway 33 in Joe Rich remains closed after washout

A portion of Highway 33 remains closed for the second day after the road was washed away.

The road is closed between Three Forks Road and Philpott Road, according to Drive BC. A detour is available using Highway 33 to Hwy 3 Rock Creek, Osoyoos or for light traffic from KLO Road to McCulloch Road.

The incident occurred June 10.

Big White resident Glenn Stevens was driving into Kelowna this morning when road crews turned him around, saying that the bottom section of the road had washed away and the top section was unstable.

Drive BC will provide a new update at 6 p.m.
