B.C. Human Rights Commissioner holding virtual town hall

Against a backdrop of worldwide protests of racism and discrimination, Interior residents will get a chance to ask B.C. Human Rights Commissioner Kasari Govender their most pressing questions during a two-hour engagement session via Zoom being held June 11.

A B.C. Office of the Human Rights Commissioner media release says the event is an opportunity to hear from people in the Interior about the human rights issues impacting their lives. The session will also inform people about their rights and responsibilities under B.C. law and the human rights system.

"As B.C.'s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner is newly re-established, my priority is to hear from people across B.C. about the pressing human rights issues they are facing. My office has identified some initial priorities for our work and I want to hear feedback about whether these priorities resonate with what they are experiencing in their day to day lives," Commissioner Kasari Govender said in a media release.

"In addition, I look forward to sharing information with those who can attend about their rights and responsibilities, as well as how they can seek support and justice when they feel that they have been discriminated against."

The two-hour-long town hall takes place on June 11, between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. To RSVP to the event go here.
