Kamloops-wide scavenger hunt planned to support B.C. Wildlife Park

Jennifer Marshall hasn’t let her seasons pass for the B.C. Wildlife Park expire since she first moved to Kamloops in 1995, and has come up with a Kamloops-wide scavenger hunt to help support the park as they ease into a new normal.

“I’ve always been really active with the Wildlife Park… Almost 25 years I’ve been involved with the Wildlife Park, and I thought they could really use someone to have their back right now. It's been a really trying time for them,” Marshall says.

Marshall is an event planner with a lot of time on her hands since COVID-19 shut down large gatherings. She decided to create a “car rally” which encourages friends and family members to pack into a vehicle and find some well-known spots in the River City.

“I thought it would be great to involve all of Kamloops and this way we can get everybody out and about in our community in a safe way while being supportive and it’s so much fun.”

She decided to run the event in support of the park after learning about their financial concerns due to lost revenue related to COVID-19.

The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on July 25. The teams will be given a sheet of paper with clues in the easy, medium, hard and bonus categories, each representing a different point value.

“We’ll hand out the rally packages which consist of information about the event, the rules… and it’ll also have the clues. They’re basically hints that need to be deciphered, so there’s no easy answers like, ‘Drive to this location and take a picture’, you have to decipher the clues,” Marshall says.

Once they’ve found the location, teams must get a photo together in the spot. By the 4 p.m. deadline, all photo submissions should be emailed to Marshall and other organizers, who will then look over all the submissions and find the first, second and third place winners.
