Central Okanagan Search and Rescue documented the search effort at the Westside Road landslide that ended with the recovery of a missing person’s body.

The landslide on Okanagan Lake brought 20,000 tons of debris onto Westside Road, 13 kilometres east of West Kelowna around 10 p.m. on April 1.

A COSAR member told iNFOnews.ca that officials found size 11 boots, a hot tub cover, a cooler, propane canisters and some pieces of what appear to be panels from a pickup truck. He said those items were found in the days after the slide.

The search and rescue team spent almost 1,000 volunteer hours on land and in the water looking for the missing individual with drones, boats and search dogs.

The team said the missing driver and the vehicle were both found in the very deep water on Saturday and the RCMP underwater recovery team will complete the recovery.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” COSAR said in a press release.
