Kamloops’s Canada Day 2020 celebration goes virtual

Kamloops residents will be able to enjoy some of the usual Canada Day festivities next month from the comfort of their homes.

Following the cancellation of the Riverside Park celebration due to COVID-19 concerns, the City of Kamloops is launching a virtual event in partnership with the Kamloops Arts Council, according to a City media release.

The live-streamed event will feature musical performances, artists, interactive activities for children and more.

"We're still finalizing the line-up but so far we have several performances by local groups confirmed including Ukrainian Dancers, Canada Wide Drumming, and Western Canada Theatre," Kamloops Arts Council executive director Terri Hadwin said in the release.

The festivities will begin July 1 at 11 a.m. Instructions on how to access the video link will be posted closer to the event.

"The annual event in Riverside Park draws tens of thousands of people, so we know it is a popular event," community events coordinator Dewi Evans said in the release. "It will be presented in a different format, but the spirit of celebrating Canada Day is just as strong as ever."
