Okanagan reporter pleads not guilty to threatening to kill hockey player
BAIL SET AT $10,000
KELOWNA – The 25-year-old Kelowna reporter arrested for allegedly threatening to kill her 19-year-old hockey player boyfriend, has pleaded not guilty to charges of felony harassment.
KVEW TV reports, Tieja MacLaughlin appeared before a Benton County Superior Court judge Friday afternoon and entered the plea after spending six days in the local jail on an investigative hold.
The prosecution were asking that bail be set at $50,000 but the judge reduced it to $10,000 with the condition that she surrenders her passport and remains in Washington State. She also signed an order that forbids her from all contact with Jackson Playfair, the man who she was having the relationship with.
MacLaughlin will stay behind bars until she raises the money for her bail.
She was arrested Saturday for allegedly sending multiple texts to Playfair and for threatening to kill him after being told by police to return to Canada.
Her trial is scheduled to begin in Benton County on March 10.
